Dr. David Hirsch is a unique combination of intelligence, grit, and compassion for the human race.
To put it mildly, Dr. Hirsch's life is extremely impressive, enlightening, and inspiring.
As a member of Cornell Class of '94, Dr. Hirsch was the wrestling program's first National Champion since 1960 under then, first year Coach, Rob Koll. He continued on to become a two-time All American wrestler, three-time Eastern Champion, and graduate with honors from the prestigious university. Dr. Hirsch also spent a year as an Assistant Coach in the Cornell Wrestling program.
He dedicated that year to coaching and figuring out what his next steps were, since he had completed his wrestling career and undergraduate education.
Deciding upon his next step in life, Dr. Hirsch attended New York University's College of Dentistry where he, once again, graduated with honors. Following his graduation from NYU's College of Dentistry, Dr. Hirsch sought out his next challenge where he attended medical school, graduated at the top of his class, and completed a 6-year Oral and Maxillofacial Residency at Bellevue/NYU. After residency, Dr. Hirsch completed an internship in General Surgery at NYU followed by a Fellowship in Head and Neck Cancer and Cosmetic Surgery in Portland, Oregon.
Despite the fact that his wrestling career and formal education is a lifetime of accomplishment in and of itself, Dr. Hirsch was only just beginning.
Dr. Hirsch currently runs his own, wildly successful private practice specializing in Maxillofacial Surgery/General Surgery, while also serving as Chief of Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/General Surgery for the Department of Otolaryngology for Head and Neck Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Dr. Hirsch isn't just a world renowned surgeon because he's great at his craft, but because he is a pioneer in his field. For example, Dr. Hirsch led a team of surgeons through a successful, cutting-edge jaw surgery on a patient with a tumor. Several major news channels picked up on this specific surgery to share his innovation with the world.
As if his sports career, formal education, and surgical innovation wasn't enough, Dr. Hirsch has taken his passion and world-class skill and applied it to philanthropy.
Dr. Hirsch has traveled around the world to Mexico, India, and the Dominican Republic performing pro bono trainings and surgeries for those in need. He is also a medical advisory board member for the non-profit organization, NextGenFace, a foundation that serves children with craniofacial conditions.
Dr. Hirsch was recognized for his life's accomplishments in 2019, when he received the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award. This award recognizes former collegiate athletes for their athletic and professional successes on their 25th anniversary from collegiate sports. Along side Dr. Hirsch, other award recipients include figures, such as Jason Varitek, Mia Hamm, and Lisa Leslie, to name a few.
